Put a paperclip in the little hole and push down. You should feela little resistance in the spring. Then turn the key CCW as you slip it in and it seats fully in/flush like the old one. Pull the clip out as you release the key and it should stay in there. You should feel it as it lcoks into place. If it comes out when you turn the key you don't have it in and locked just right. I had to fiddle with it only a little to get mine to work in my 69. If you have forced things maybe the spring is jammed. IDK. Good luck.

I am assuming that you probably have everything....

Starfurry is right though, the instructions in the shop manual are very good. Kalli posted a link with the shop manual instructions as well.

I just don't remember enough about the install to be of much help. I remember using a micro screwdriver through the little hole both on disassembly and reassembly.

there is a little pin and spring that falls out. this could be why it pops out.
