My friends I6 wont start
My friend has a 67 with a strait 6 that hasnt been used in 10-15 years. It starts up, but it burns a lot of oil, and is challenging to start. Is the only option a rebuild? My friend doesnt have a lot of money to put in to the car so if it does need a rebuild, would it be okay to rebuild it without machining the engine?
Any other suggestions would be very appreciated.

You would really need to tear it down to determine that, could have scored cylinders, etc!! Do you happen to know if the motor was frozen up at any point and maybe someone broke it loose and possibly broke a ring or something?Could be a possibility.[sm=signs003.gif]Has anyone done a compression check on it to see if all cylinders are fairly even?

I dont know ifyou want to rebuild it. The previous owners of my Mustang had my I6 rebuilt and bored .040. It costed them 2500 to do that. Maybe if you could find one buy another.

The engine has never been seized, and has always run, just never well, and they dont start it very often. If they were to have the engine rebuilt, they would do it without any machine work, just new gaskets and a good cleaning and whatnot. My friend and I tried to find a running i6 on craigslist but didnt have any luck...

You can look for these I6s. 200, 250, and 300. Also check out www.fordsix.com register and talk with some of those peopleon the forumsand see if they have an extra engine.
