Default RE: Wiring a 67 factory tach

i've read on many references that the pertronix module (or pertronix distri) does not affect operation on those factory tachs.
Unfortunately i don't have a rally pac myself to do any testing. I only made research because I was thinking about getting one.

Does anyone in the forums know if the resitor wire has to be removed when pertronix modules are used ?
Or should they stay ?
my info is: if you have stock coil the wire stays, if you have a pertronix coil, the wire should be bypassed.
Anyone info on that ?

There are two Pertronix modules available. The standard Pertronix Ignitor does not require you to bypass the resistor wire for proper functionality, but you can if you want to. You just need to make sure you have a coil designed to run on 12V rather than the factory coil which is designed to run on ~8V.

The Ignitor II has some features the standard model doesn't (variable dwell, KOEO coil cutoff), and it does require a full 12V to function properly. If you don't bypass the resistor wire, you may have misfire and timing issues.

Ok, I wanna get this rite. Normally the ignition switch is wired to the + side of the coil. And now I will be wiring the tach betweenthem both. Thats kind of whatI interpreted from tarafied1's explanation and diagram and from schematics that I have seen. Is this correct?? I don't wanna mess up the tach.

i never hooked one up, so don't take my word for it, but every writing about that I see seems to say the saem inline hookup as you and tarafied1 describe it:

etc ...

I have ran into another problem with the tach. I have attached pictures of my housing and what I think my housing has to be in order to fit the tach. If you look at the bottom left side where the tach goes, you'll notice that the two are different. Mine looks like the first picture, i need a housing like the second/third picture. Does anyone know where I can buy one?

SalikDDD: will never be able to tell. some aftermarket distributors are just like the old ford ones. Some you can use some not.
Some (those really big ones from GM) have a tach output at the distribor cap. it's only one pin and that should give signal. but I'm convinced that they won't work with orig for tachs (inline version), but they should match the ones you can buy for a new car.
The only way to tell would be to ask the manufacturer of your tach

SalikDDD: contact the tachman. www.tachman.com
he might be able to sort you out.
He will be able to tell you if it works and he might be able to convert it for you if neccessary
