In a 1965 200 cid mustang does the air cleaner and valve cover need to be the same color?
I recently bought a 1965 mustang, and was told everything was original. However I did some research and I thought I read in more than one location that the valve cover and the air cleaner have to be the same shade of blue or red. Well my air cleaner is an orangey red and the valve cover is a pretty bright blue color. Does that mean that either of the parts are not original? Or can they be different colors in a 1965 200 cid 3 speed manual mustang? And if one or both pieces are the wrong color, could that be due to someone detailing the valve cover and/or air cleaner the wrong color? Is there anyway to determine originality on these parts, or even any signs that would tell me that these parts are not original? Thanks, and ANY advice would be appreciated.
Colleen
P.S. Sorry it is so long winded.

They do need to be the same color and if memory serves it is the light blue color. As far as originality there is no way to tell if those parts are original and the good news is that it does not matter. When looking at an "all original" car it is things like block casting date, trans date, and vin that you need to worry about. Simply stripping the paint and re-painting will have you good to go.

65 is ablack engine block, with orange air cleaner and orange valve cover. Sounds like someone just replaced the valve cover.. 66 the block switched to blue as well as the air cleaner and valve cover.

Thank you all for the help. I am glad that it doesn't affect the originality of the car. I will go ahead change the color. Thanks. And one more question. How does the block casting date and trans date tell you the originality of those parts to the car?
