Default 66 with 65 mustang instrument panel

Hey all I finally got my 66 and am confused. It is supposedly a 66 (WIMBELDON WHITE) with a pony interior (aqua and white). The door pannel numbers are 65 B M 67 21C 53 2 6 The instrument cluster is not pony but is black and it looks like off a 65...it has the three little squares. Also the steering wheel is not pony???? The VIN number is 6F07T289224 She is in need of a total resto so maybee someone started her out wrong????

65 had idoit light panal and 66 had gages. Pony interior had the woodgrain. If it has idiot lights either someone went though a lot of trouble to cange out the wiring harnist or you have a revined 65 mustang.

you seem to have the same info:
===========================================

Plant: F Dearborn, MI
Body Series: 07 2 Door Hardtop
Engine: T 200 1v I6

Miscellaneous Vehicle Data
Body: 65B 2 Door Hardtop, Pony Interior

Date: 21C March 21, 1966
D.S.O: 53 Kansas City

Trans: 6 C4 Automatic
===========================================

how about the rest of the car? does it match?
ie: white outside, blue/white pony inside?

is it a C4 auto?

i'm just asking because it could have been that the door (with plate) has been swapped, or the fender (with vin)
does the VIN on the data-tag match the VIN on the fender?

those are the clusters avail for 65 and 66 models, which one do you have?

get us a few pictures from the inside and outside of your car as well (front and side)
and we'll be able to tell you more

The top one is whats in it. I was over there today and was trying to get the instrument cluster out was gonna bring it home and take pictures but it wouldnt pop out. All the screws are out. Will work on it more tomorrow....and will take before and after pics. You you see in the dash the bottom of the interior is rounded...so its deff. not the right one, plus it wasnt screwed in there right and there was a big gap all around. More tomorrow. THANKS!!!!!!!!!

to get the gauges out you also have to unscrew the spedometer cable from the back of the cluster

thats really interesting though...maybe they had a surplus of '65 gauges they had to use at the factory?

was thinking the same, but the car is march 66 not end 65 or something, so my money is on:
"I guess the PO liked the original cluster and swapped it with that one ;-)"

I have seen a lot of older gm cars people swaped the disc brakes for drums so nothing is that far fetched when you have a older car.
