Stalls, won't start, after warm
66 I6, Eltronic Ignition, New Distributor Cap, Wires, and plugs within last 1,000 miles. Carb butterfly flap fully open.
She starts up and runs fine then about 20 mintes later stalls out and will not start again. Leave her a for a hour and she starts up and runs until warm then stalls out again. Any idea's? |

vapor lock in the fuel system? just a guess....(like i know what i am talking about...)

RE: Stalls, won't start, after warm
Pull the air cleaner after it won't start, then pull the throttle and see if it is squirting fuel. If it is not it may be a fuel filter problem.

^ and then if you get fuel, try holding the throttle at half way or just under halfway down, and then try starting it if you dont already

RE: Stalls, won't start, after warm
Big chance it is vapour lock. I had the same thing happen on mine. After reconnecting the fuel line to the carb, it would run fine for 20 - 30 minutes and then stall. It wouldn't restart for almoust an hour.
I noticed I'd put the rubber fuel line to the carb too close to the intakemanifold, so the fuel inside would warm up and evaporate. The fuel vapor would rise to the highestpoint off the fuel line, thus creating a blockage for the liquid fuel. So look at your fuel line, and trie to have some distance between it and the engine, and if possible to not have it curb higher than the point where it's connected to the carb. Good luck, Mark |

As I was sitting at Dunkin Donuts (not eating donuts, just sitting) I was thinking Vapor Lock also based on stories I had heard in the past. I'll play with that this week.
You can tell by my post count I am new here but this is a awesome site filled with great people. I'm glad I came across it. |

RE: Stalls, won't start, after warm
I think /hope we fixed it.
1)Determined she was getting fuel 2) Pulled #1 plug wire. Determined we had no spark when she stalled 3) Did some tests per the manual using a meter 4) Found a bad quick connect on a wire coming off the coil 5) Cut out the connection and spliced the wires togther 6) It ran for 1/2 hour without stalling 7) I almost feel ready to hit the street with her and my AAA FREE TOWING Card |
