if u look at the cats hoos itll have 2 scoops, when you open it there will be a plastic or fiberglass plenum attatched to it with a couple of vacuum actuators. there will be a massive rubber seal attached to the top of the air cleaner.

A standard Marti Report will tell what options your Mustang was ordered with. Also, if your '71 was built in Dearborn you can order the original dealer invoice.

Yes the Marti report shows the options, but was Ram Air an option. In 69 for example, the ram air shaker was based on the engine code not an option code. How was Ram Air ordered in 71 is what the big question is, I think. Was it part of an engine code or was it an option code?

You should know original good condition ram air units last i saw, were selling for 800-1200 dollars. That is because they are fairly rare, and lots of people ended up ditching them for bigger carbs, and clearance.
If the engine was all there in good condition, the car could be worth easily 1500 dollars. Not saying you should go buy it. I mean, 1500 in a parts car is a bit much. But, if the rust isn't terminal, it could easily be worth what the owner is asking. I've see some pretty shot cars make a comeback.
Either way, the ram air was available on the 351c, and 429's, but was an option, only factory with the boss (1F02R). I don't recall it being available on the 302's, thou i could be wrong. Also, there were non-ramair cars with the ramair hood from the lot. It was an apparel package to help boost sales with the 'performance look'. It came on some of the 1F02M cars(base model). Quite a few of those cars got turned into 'bosses', aswell. I ended up with one being sold as a 'boss' (i didn't purchase it, but it came to me nonetheless. Was excited when i first started thinking ohboy i have one of 1802 cars made! Ran the vin, to get disapointed. nonetheless nice car, with good package).
