Well there are plenty of opinions, I think that there may be a little confusion regarding what type of gasket we are talking about here..... As far as the one piece oil pan seals go,
IMO sealer should be used on the ends of the pan at least.....

As stated in my first reply, my son used one of these on his Chevy 350, first time up no sealer, leaked real bad, 2nd time up with a thin film of sealer 360 degrees, both sides of the gasket, no leak at all, anywhere...

Take it for what it is worth!

Alot depends on the fit of the pan also. Sealer or no, Canton sucks. The lip is in the wrong spot, and pushes out the seal alot of the times. So RTV or no, that thing is gonna leak. FWIW, I do do it for a living, and have never seen sealant cause a leak. I just try not to use in on the one peice because when/if the pan comes off, I don't want it to tear. they are kinda pricey compared to cork. The only place I use it is at the corner where it's round, wher the timing chain cover meets the block, and the round lips front and rear(on all of them now.)

It's interesting reading these posts. I used the same (I believe) one piece gasket and used no sealer and it is leak free. However, I spent aLOT of time cleaning the block and the oil pan to make sure the surfaces were clean, and my oil pan was also straight. I believe that helped a ton.

Now if I could just get my C4 to stop leaking...

Don't have to drop the tranny. It just and o-ring on the oiutside of the tranny behind the kickdown lever.
