When floor jacks go up and down they need to go back and forth too. I've had mine do the same thing when the jack doesn't roll like it should, it starts tilting the stands. I've learned to check to make sure all the feet are on the ground like they should be. You can never be too careful.

Speaking of your bolt-in spring compressor Daze, you remember that project I was doing? I ended up doing your spring compressor (hope you don't mind!)
I still have to model up a spring perch and connect it, but shouldn't be too bad. It seems the spring perch distributes a lot more of the load than I imagined initially. I'll send the results later so you can check them out.

I has a "spring incident" once as well, and still have the scars to prove it. Kind of like Daze, but mine was on the transverse rear leaf spring on a '69 Corvette. I was removing the bolt to repair a snapped axle shaft. I was talking to my dad while loosening the bolt and didn't realize how close to the end I was. When the nut got close to the end, it popped off pinning my hand to the ground. The only thing my dad could think of was to lay down and try to kick the spring off my hand. Blood got everywhere I had to spendseveral hours in the emergency room.
Moral of the story, pay attention to your work, always have someone around within shouting distance, and pay attention to your work. Oh, did I mention, you need to pay attention to your work.

i got a good one, i had just started jacking up my car from the drivers side when one of my car club buddys rolled up he asked what i was doing i told him i needed to ajust the linkage to the shifter it should be quick so i didnt bother to even use the jack stands (i know it was stupind of me) my freind keeps telling to grab the stands it aint safe he grabs a stand (it was at its lowest setting)and slides it under the car just as he gets up the jack slips and shoots out from under the carand stops about a inch from my face! im just glad my buddy showed up when he did if not it could have been a pretty bad day for me.[&:]

ya, those stupid scissor jacks in newer cars are crap. I tried to change a tire on my old volvo with one of those and it literally just bent under the weight of the car. It was ridiculous.
