Default Which Pertronix part number for 65 I6?

Newb, here, folks. Just picked up a very nice 65 vert this past week. Runs like a top, but after doing a bunch of lurking/reading, the first order of business appears to be upgrading to EI. Strange thing is, some of the sites I've seen say to use the 1266 part number for the Ignitor II, and some say 1261. Any experience out there?

cheers,
MrM

Not sure about those numbers. I got mine from Texas Mustang and it worked just fine. I also see that Texas Mustang sells them for 64.95 which is about 20 bux less than others sell them for.

You might want to also think about their dizzy's and coils. The combintion of the flame thrower coil, the flame thrower dizzy and the module will allow for a balanced ignition system. With this system, you can open up your spark plugs some to get more fire power. The 0.032 can be opened up to as much as 0.045. Some folks on other Mustang forums say this is not necessary to achieve more firepower, but I know that it is. My 2c

I did pick up the coil as well. What are the best plugs with that gap to put into this beast? Having asked that, is it rocket science to gap a plug? Something even a Marine can do?

There are a lot of differing opinions regarding spark plugs, but I use BF 42's. For gapping them, just get a simple gapping tool from any parts place and select the width you want, then pry the tip to that setting.

installed both the Ignitor II and the Flame Thrower II coil. New plugs, gapped to .040. HUGE difference in top end, and overall performance. Very happy with this.

You will notice that the tips of your plugs will burn out faster than the old ones with the point system, but it's worth it in the peformance you gain.
