70 won't turn off engine now.
Yo , I put a new solenoid in today. After I was done the car starts fine but won't turn off with the ignition. I have to pull the black lead on the left ( I ) to get it to stop. I'm pretty sure I put every thing back right. Red lead to S , Black to I. What did I do wrong? thanks , scottg 1970 302-2v

RE: 70 won't turn off engine now.
Mine did the same thing until it eventually melted the coil feed wire and i noticed the coil was bad. I replaced it and it has been good so far. Not sure if it's the same problem, but may be worth looking into...

RE: 70 won't turn off engine now.
I brought home a multimeter from work 2day. I found that the ignition post (black I) on the solenoid is hot all the time. Not good . The old one went back in, all OK.
I thought buying the $30 selinoid w/ correct markings would get me better quality control. I'm not trying to win any tropies but do like to replace parts as close to original looking as possible. Will exchange part @ CJPony Parts. |
RE: 70 won't turn off engine now.
Hiya. check where the "i" post is going to
"i" is actually the one on the right. "s" for starter is on left. The cable on "I" should go to your coil+. The only reason it is there is that when you start the engine it will feed 12V+ to your coil (instead of the 7.5 it usually runs with"). Since you have the old selonoid in I cannot tell you what to test. Hope it works fine for you. Any problems let us know and we'll check |
