Hey guys. Some bad new I suppose. I gave the car to my mechanic friend up the street who put it on a lift and assessed the situation. He says the brakes need to be completely redone, that there is some rust deep in some crevices under the car, that it needs a suspension kit, and bunch of other stuff. He layed out what it would cost if we had him do it for us.
Brakes-
Drums- 4x$90 = $360
Cylinders- 4x$29 = $120
Bushings- 4x$4 = $16
Hub/Rotors- 4x$70 = $280
Hardware Kit- $27 = $27
Fuel sending unit for my broken gas gauge- $35
Suspension kit- $300
Thats $1138 minus $100 per hour labor costs. I feel this is too expensive. Could I find these parts for much cheaper online? I looked up a few and saw way lower prices than he gave me. Give me some advice guys.

Those prices sound pretty good to me, i guess, but if you're going to drop a few hundred on brake stuff, buy the CSRP front disc brake swap for $650... for that price you'll have power front disc brakes.
I hate to be the dick... but I kinda feel like we told you so. I don't think this guy had 20 people lined up to pay what you did for the car, so I think you had a couple of extra daysto report to us, we could've told you 500 extra things to check.
Did this guy let you drive the car before you bought it? If not, I wouldnt have bought anything from him.
Buy the front disc brake kit, then rear springs ($100) and front coils (like $45, i think, from NPD?) and you should be done. coils is something you might not want to do yourself, but the disc swap and rear springs are simple enough you might be able to handle them.

Which kit should I be looking at here?
http://www.discbrakeswap.com/Mustang...s%20SWAP1.html
The 67.PBU meant for 1967s with auto trans would be ideal wouldnt it? But its 800 bucks...Is that the only one I can get?

Those prices I read off were actually not from the mechanic himself. I was copying off a paper where my father wrote down his "research" for part prices. Like I said I checked out sites like NPD, ect. and their prices were cheaper than that. Still front disk brakes might be the way to go, but Ill let you guys give me some feedback first.

Ok, someone on the boards here, can't remember his screenname can get you the CSRP disc brake power kit for like $650. Def. the way to go... someone else will be able to post his name here, I recommend you pm him or email him when you get it, he'll hook you up. They're great people and stand behind their work. DEF. the route to go if you're rebuilding complete brake system anyway

Ok yeah for $550 you can continue to have crappy, unreliable drum brakes. Or for $100 more you can get power front disc brakes which will ultimately increase the drivability, reliabilty, and VALUE of the vehicle.
