Engine won't run
All of a sudden, our '67 (289) won't run. Engine fires when turn the key, then immediately dies. Occasionally, will run for a few seconds at high rpm if hold gas pedal to the floor, but then shuts down.
Seems to be getting gas and spark. Any ideas? Help! |
Check if the coil is getting power when the key is in the "run" position. Sometimes the coil is powered with 12 Volts while cranking (wire runs from the starter relay) and then switches to the ballast after it starts.
Other than that check the fuel filter and float bowl for debris. |
Also check your timing. Did you tighten the hold down bolt? Mine gave me that problem,, it would start to stumble and then die out.. I had forgotten to tighten it down..

blue66mustang has it bang on I believe.
On that thought just run a wire from battery+ to coil+ See if that solves your problem. BUT BE WARNED: if this helps it's only to isolate the issue. do NOT run your car like this. You'll fry your coil when this is on for too long and car not running. Just put it on. give it a try. Then remove it again. let us know the result Kalli |
Definitely something in the ignition circuit. Sometimes getting power to the coil, sometimes not. Wiggling wires, can sometimes get it to run for awhile. Time to start tracing wires.
THanks for the suggestions. |
