65 Mustang Engine Sounds
#11
can i ask, what do yo mean by a shot bearing?. I was thinking, If I were to unplug pistron #1 and start the car, to see if the noise is there or not. Go through all of them one at a time. Once I find what piston it is, I can tighten the exaust manifold bolts and then open the valve covers and make sure the rocker arms are tight. As for the rod, I can pull it out to make sure it looks ok. Maybe even swap the rod with the next piston to see really if that is the problem. If all else seems fine. I guess I could run the compression test. but the car is not over heating and it seems fine when I drive it. I guess just leave it alone! lol

Ok. I am done making some verification on my engine. Turns out, I have found that the knocking is coming from Piston #1. The engine sounds good and smooth without the Piston #1 pluged in. As in the process, (me being a dummy) I pulled one of the spark plug wires out that the end near the spark plug, snapped and broke! YeaH!.
I did check the spark splugs (Which i installed a few months ago), when I took some of them out, they looked heavy coated black oil. (I don't understand). What could it be? Is it a simple fix as of adding a thicker oil? or additive?
I am going to purchase the Ignitior II with the 12V Coil. However, One question remains, The 12V wire I need to install to the coil, how do I do that? Do i need to take it from the silonoid (what side) and direct link to the coil, or is there a fuse I need to run in case of a short?
Thanks for your help everyone!!!

if your spark plugs are covered in oil that means you piston rings are bad, letting oil past them,..probably also causing low compression, inturn also a lack of power,..i didnt read to much,..but what engine is this? how many miles?

I understand the rings. however, can I replace the piston rings without tearing down the whole engine? Could I drop the oil pan and unbolt the piston arm and drop it?
What is a "top rod bushing/piston/pin "?
And how do you easily replace the valve seals?
Stupid questions, i know. But I am trying to understand this.
Thanks again!

Sounds about right.. But you will have to pull the pistons from the top.. It would be hell getting them back in from the bottom with the crank in the way.. New rings will make a really tight fit. You will need head gaskets, oil pan gasket, intake gasket, and valve cover gaskets and some RTV.. Check the cylinder walls while you are in there to see if you have a nice surface. If your dad is helping you guys can do this, its really not too bad. Just remember to put everything back in, in the same order you took it out. Same pushrods to the same lifter.. ect.
