Thanks everyone for the complements. We all have different styles and the Mustang allows everyone to create their own. Since I used my own time and money, then I did it my why. Again, no permanent modifications--bolt on, bolt off.

Okay, back to the original question.

To fit 10.5 wheels in the rear on a 1965 Fastback you will need to some modifications. This is why--a 10.5 wheel measures 11.5 from lip to lip. The 10.5 measurement is from bead locks, which are inside the rim. Besides the wheel we need a tire. A tire size makes a huge difference in appearance, ride comfort, noise level, handling, etc. Therefore, you must also determine the size of the tire. For example, if you have an 11" wide wheel (rim) this translates to 12" lip to lip. You will need a tire wider than 12" to protect the wheel and make it look meaty (like a muscle car). Therefore the tire size would most likely be:

335 width / 35 sidewall height (35 % of width) / 17 wheels size diameter in inches.

335 equals 13.19" WIDE
35/17 equals 26.23" TALL (.51" taller than my size)

I have 18x8 wheels in the rear. Again this equals 9" in total width of the wheel. My rear tires are 245/14/18. This equals 9.65", which allows a bit of rubber on the sides. That’s the math.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Your eyes play tricks on you. For example, my rear tire size is 245/40/18, which equals 25.7 inches tall. My convertible's stock tire is 195/75/14, which measures 25.5 inches tall. Wow, the 18" tire and the 14" tire only vary by .20"--that is less than a quarter inch in total diameter. You must know the total size and MEASURE YOUR CAR. They all vary a bit.

NOW, I cannot show you what a 17x10.5 wheel looks like on a 1965 Fastback, BUT I can show you what an 18x11 wheels looks like. PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS NOT MY CAR. First the details from a write-up on the car:

- Mini tubbed--Don't know how much
- Rear seat narrowed about 4 inches
- 8" narrowed
- Custom fuel tank

WHEELS and TIRES:
American Racing
REAR 18x11 (custom built with an 8 inch rear lip)
FRONT 18x7

Tires:
REAR 335/30/18 (25.9" diameter/Tall) 13.19" WIDE
FRONT 225/35/18 Michelin Pilot Sports

SUSPENSION:
Lowered 3 inches, KB bump steer kit, KYB shocks, 1 3/4 front and rear sway bar, 1 inch front strut brace, reverse eye rear leafs, Front lowering springs and dropped spindles.

THIS IS NOT MY CAR. I DO NOT KNOW MORE THAN WHAT IS HERE--SORRY.

Eh, too big. Looks like a bicycle tire from the side.

I'd like a little more tire, but that thing is awesome! I'm shooting for just a bit more ride height.

Here's a link to a guy who can narrow or widen wheels. I hear he is one of the best.
