Default questions on exhaust

ok so heres the deal, i have a '68 coupe with a 302 and auto tranny. we just did a cam swap, put headers and a torque converter on, put on a ported intake that i got from a friend, and a 500 cfm 2 bbl holly carb (also from a friend). the next step is exhaust. i was thinking about going with glasspacks. so heres my question: ive been looking for an exhaust kit with no luck. could anyone post a link to a kit with just the pipes (i figured i would buy the mufflers seperate). any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. thanks,

I don't see any real advantage to buying a kit. Take your preferred mufflers to a good local muffler shop and they'll weld you up a good system in a day for the same price, and it'll actually fit properly.

btw, ditch that 2V intake/carb and put a nice 500-550CFM 4V carb on there. You'll get better mileage and better throttle response out of the 4V.

Actually, if you provide the mufflers and reducers for the headers, I bet you could get the job done for around $200, or even less.

Esp if the parts are for the most part provided....so just labor is in question as to how much to install....sounds fair to me.

Feel like learning how to weld? No better time. You can buy all the aluminized pipe and fittings from NAPA.

Just what ever you do, dont go to midas or a big muffler shop like that. I took my 68 when it still had a 302 in it to a midas and I think that company will hire anyone the is brave enough to get under one of their junk car lifts - because welding sure isnt a requirement. Those junk booger welds that they threw at my exhaust system didnt last hardly any time and all. Instead go to a mom and pop place, they take some pride in their work.

Oh, well in that case, just pick up a bunch of mandrel bent sections from Summit. I bet you'll get everything all done for less than $200.
