Gas hood struts?
 

Anyone using gas struts on their hood? I am having a hard time finding a kit.

I'd recommend against it. Gas struts are ok for light use (ie. hatchbacks, tool boxes, etc), but I've found that they tend to wear out faster when used for heavy applications like hoods. If anything, you'd be better off spending your money on those nifty CNC hinges that extend out as well as up.

Check out the gas hood struts on cherokees...NONE of them work! We have a special hood prop at work for them and a few other cars. I imagine a mustang hood would be even worse...

I would use a prop rod before gas struts. I removed my hood hinge springs and will use a prop rod eventually. I do have a fiberglass hood though.

I installed lifts on my 2005 GT hood when I first got it and love them. Never had any problem with them. That said, I've never seen a conversion for early models.

I have my hood on the car currently via hinges but also have no springs. I don't like the factory hinge setup, and tell you the trust, Im not sure how to get the springs back on the hinges...

But its a pain becuase its super heavy and I cant work in the bay with no prop rod...

easiest way to get the springs back on is to use a fan belt. Hook one end of the spring over the rear point, then hook the fan belt to the front and use it to pull the spring forward and into position. easy and fast

I've always used a big screwdriver to put my springs back on. Now the trunk spring is a different story.

I have and two systems that use struts on my stang. The first kit is made by Aeroform and is less than $200 but not that great of a system. The set of hinges I am using now are made by Ring Brothers and are awesome. Spendy but very nice.
