Default Trouble With Heater Cables

Hi All,
Having an annoying problem with the heater cables on my 67. Specifically the cable that attaches to the DEF level. As soon as I slide the DEF level up or down, the cable pops off the post. The other two cables (TEMP, HEAT) don't have this problem. These are brand new cables. I know at the other end of the cables (on the heater box) there are little caps that hold the cables onto the posts. No problems there. But there doesn't seem to be anything I've seen that's supposed to hold the DEF cable onto it's post. Would love to get my dash put back together but this is holding me up. Any thoughts?
Thanks

How are the other two cables held in place?

They are just hooked onto the back of the sliders, nothing is holding them on but they don't fall off. Only the DEF cable falls off.

Sounds like it's kinked or that there is enough of a bend to put it into a bind.

My '70 has clips on the cable connections. They are like small washers with spring teeth on the inside diameter. They are a nuisance to remove and frequently damaged or lost when removing.

I'll say! My cable ended up being twisted, got a new replacement from CJ no questions asked, installed without issue.

Sound's like you've got it fixed. If you want to add the retainers they are available. Push on Retainers for 3/16" shafts and posts. All of the '70 ones are 3/16" I'm sure they are available from many of the Mustang sources but also West Coast Classic Cougars part no. 11998 for all $0.25 each. I'm currently rebuilding my whole heater A/C box so I've become familiar with many of these parts.
