'67 289c.i. 2valve intake V8: BIGGER INTAKE

I have a 2 valve intake on my carburator and I was wondering if I can install a 4 valve because the 4's have more hp.
Thnx.

Ha. I just posted about this too. I was wondering the same thing about my 289. To put on a 4 valve carb, you have to put on a 4 valve intake manifold first.

I agree with the second 67_FASTBACK, or is that the first one? Are you talking to your self 67_FB?

On another note, the "V" in 2V or 4V means the number of Venturi's in the carb, not valves. It's the little round thing in the middle of each barrel.

You technically can install a 2 barrel carb on a 4 barrel intake, but unless you were pushing a higher cfm carb I doubt it would do much. It's a step in the right direction if you're planning on changing to a 4 barrel later.

Ain't no valves in a carb. :D Just venturi. It makes no sense to put on a 4v carb without first putting on an intake designed for a 4v carb. And, if you are going to go through the trouble of adding a 4v carb, you may as well put on a better intake manifold than a stock one. That is where you get your HP from, not from the 4v carb.

I beg your pardon Soaring, but there is a power valve in performance carbs such as Holley’s and Barry Grant Demon series:D. Don’t know about the Ford stock crap or Edelbrock carbs[:'(], so don't be too hasty in saying there ain't no valves in a carb.

Hey, that Motorcraft (Autolite) 4100 carb is a tough carb to beat. And, it ain't got no valves. :D

The Motorcraft (Autolite) 4300 carb is a tough carb to beat as well!

True Dat. I know there are a lot of performance carbs out there that are tough to beat for performance machines, but it sounds as if the original poster doesn't have a performance engine. I would stick with what is tried and true before venturing off with aftermarket carbs for a stock engine.
