Default 289 and Fox Body Heads

Does anyone know if you can put fox body heads on a stock 289? If so is there a lot of machining that needs to be done to get them to work?

All it would take are some conversion head bolts, which are available from ARP. You can also buy spacer bushings to do the same job, but I figure you need the head bolts anyway, so why not?

The question is, why are you doing this? E7 (1987) and up 302 heads have a slight improvement in the exhaust port castings, but any flow improvement is going to be offset by a loss of compression from the larger combustion chambers.

If you're looking for something cheap that will improve power, GT40 (not GT40P) heads are the way to go.
