71 mustang 351c alternator connection
Greetings, I am changing out my alternator when I noticed something a little weird, I think the guy before me hooked up the alternator wrong but I need some verification. There are the 3 wires for the alternator but they had the yellow wire going from the regulator to the ground connection . I see the STA is left with no wire and i don't think this is right. Any suggestions?

Ok so I have 3 wires, black, orange and white. The black goes to battery, the orange and white though i'm not sure which is supposed to go to the FLA or STA. And also since mine didn't have a ground wire should I add one or will it ground fine through the engine.

If I remember correctly, a correct stock wiring harness should be:
Alternator
Stator should be empty.
Ground should connect to ground (black with red strip wire).
Batt should connect to hot side (battery side) or the starter solenoid (Black with yellow strip wire)
Field should connect to voltage regulator (orange wire)
Voltage regulator
Pin 1 goes to Field (orange wire)
Pin 2 goes to to firewall harness (green with red strip)
Pin 3 goes to hot side (battery side) of starter solenoid (yellow wire)
Pin 4 open
