Default I see smoke.... um... Passenger side

It was a beautiful day here in indy today! 70 + Degrees. I thought Hey! I mize well start up the car. Well... As I went to crank the car from the ignition, I could see some light smoke from the passenger side. AS I did it a few more turns, I smelled something... Turns out the smoke was coming from the wire to the starter.

I could fell the battery positive cable to the solidoid and it was warm. So the wire from the other side of the solinoid was warm too...

What is going on? Did I not put the cable on the starter tight enough? Is the starter shot? AHHH..

Help would be great!
Thanks guys

I suspect a bad cable. Cables can corrode inside the insulation.

if the cable is ok, check as well if the positive cable on starter is not touching the starter housing itself slightly.
Happened to someone else on forums as well. he had it so bad that it wouldn't even start anymore

I will check to see if the cable is touching the starter... However, you do not think that the starter is bad do you? I will look at it today when I get home!

your starters probably ok, just check connections, corrosion spots or ground-out spots

I had the same thing on my car, it was just a cable.

Sounds like a short or a bad cable, either one can cause excess resistance or current feedback(in the case of a short) that will get stuff hot rather quickly.
