Default 68 Rocker Panel Trim, whats the secret?

I've got the long peice of chrome trim that starts at the front fender and goes across the rocker to the rear fender. What is the secret to keeping this on and tight? Previous owner had put a small screw through it at the front end on each side. 'Clips' looked to be riveted on. I cannot get this strip to stay on with any assurance without using the screw. Do I need new clips?

Thanks

I just took mine off yesterday and on a '66 they are supposed to have a bolt / nut on each end with the clips riveted on in between the two ends. Reading in the body assembly manual for a '66 this was correct for my car.

Don't know if a '68 is that much different though....

The problem I had is all four of the bolts pretty much broke with even a slight twist of a ratchet so I am trying to hunt down the hardware before I have to put them back on

The non-end clips are pop riveted on, and unless they have been damaged somehow, most likely the top and bottom edge have been spread apart somewhat. Careful squeezing of these edges (especially careful at the top) and proper installation of the bolted-on clip at the front (the 64-66 were bolted at both ends) should keep them on. The clips, both end and center, are available from any Mustang part seller.

Thanks all, I will try to 'tighten up' the edges on the chrome strip and see how that works. May go ahead and use the screw too since there is already a hole in the chrome.

O...ok, you mean he literally had a screw all the way through the molding?

On mine, there was a clip on the back (like the other ones pretty much) but it had a bolt attached to the clip so that when the trim was on the car it hid the bolt.

I saw the hardware for mounting these in a catalog this morning but today has been crazy so I haven't yet had a chance to chase down the hardware and order it...however, I don't think it was expensive. The actual trim piece is another story. I thought about just replacing mine but looking at the cost I am going to clean up what I have instead.
