You have a '65 so you'll probably want the '65 RP which is NOT the same as a '66 (though they will both work mechanically in either car).
IMO, having owned and restored an original RP and having bought one of the Oval Industries repop RP's, I'd save the dough for the repop. By the time you get done restoring the original, you'll have spent probably as much or more.
Look on Ebay and you can get a nice FORD licensed RP for $360 through Sacramento Mustang.

A used one on ebay will run at least $200.

i got the one from sacramento mustang as well. It includes the wiring harness and installation manual (it's the original manual so expoect a lot of fun figuring it out).
Like gothand says they are different. Low style (64.5-65) and high style (66)
here's the low style (64.5-65):
and here's high style (66):
mounted they look like that:
low:
high:
Both can be ordered with the following options:
6000 or 8000 rpm
ford script in tach, mustang script in tach.
As far as I know even coloured.
The 8000rpm versions are said to be not readable but I haven't seen one in person so far, so can't say.
For a stocker the 6000 rpm version is plenty
I have the low-style 6000 rpm version
will make a proper pic later

Agreed. In the early 90's, I came across a garage sale while visiting San Luis Obispo, CA and a guy was actually selling a bunch of hi-po Mustang takeoff parts. I picked up an 8,000 rpm '66 Rally Pac that I gave to my younger brother for his '66 vert. The tach is tough to read!! At that same garage sale, I picked up a console for AC and manual tranny for $25 as well but passed on the original hipo manifolds for $10. Oh, those were the days.

No. The 64 always had the high-profile type. The 66, unless installed by a careless dealer, always had the low-profile type. The 65 could go either way, depending on the type instrument cluster. The high-profile was always black, but the low-profile was color-keyed to the dash. The one in my 66 is light blue, for example.

Ya got that backward, pardner. This is the high-profile type:
This is the low-profile type:
mounted they look like:
I think you can see why the 5-gauge version is called the low-profile.

I did some research and it seems that most people call the later one the low profile.
It is sitting higher alright, but maybe the cut in the middle section is the reason they're called low profile.
So ignore low/high and just go with: "64-65" rally pac for the long type speedo and 66 rally pac for the clock type speedo
