Default New Suspension

hey folks, got a few ideas here. I have a 1968 coupe 289 C4. 17X8 TTII 4.5 bs, 235/45 front, 245/45/ in the rear, and drums all the way around, (cool huh). Im finally graduating college in may and im going to have some extra money this summer to spend on my car before i enter the police academy. I am feeling the CSRP brake swap, and originality doesnt matter to me so much so what would be the best option on a brake swap they have to offer? Tie rods and steering will be replaced as well. Also im wanting to rebuild the suspension, so should i even fool with doing just ball joints or get entire new UCA and LCAs. IM interested in doing the UCA drop, already read up on that. ANd i have a set of 620 drop springs that i was thinking about installin which i got with the car a long long time ago, but now i read on here where ppl are saying they are much too stiff. I live in WV, so the roads are pretty crappy. I have a slight rub on the front left at a high speed dip the car wants to float a little bit on me. Would like to put new shocks GR2's all the way around, and new leaves in the back. So all in all,
1) Which CSRP swap is a popular choice on here?
2) Suspension, rebuild or replace?
3) Coil spring and UCA drop effects on the rubbing
4) Anybody have a nice fender roller i can borrow? haha

If you're set on CSRP, get the OE KH-style kit. It will bolt onto your existing spindles and will use OE 65-67 style parts.

But if you have a bit more money, you may be interested in bigger brakes than that. Mustang Steve has a popular kit to run late model brakes, and I believe Willwood has a similar big brake kit.

Suspension wise, replace it. IMO it's not worth it to try to rebuild anything. Your time is worth more than what you'd save in parts.

The Shelby drop will help reduce the rubbing situation by providing negative camber in corners. You can probably further increase your tire clearance by rolling the fenders. If you're only barely rubbing now, I don't think it'll be much of an issue.

Finally, I'd recommend Edelbrock IAS shocks. They're smoother than the KYB Gas-A-Justs on rough roads, but they handle better in the corners. GR-2's are more of a spongy street shock. Edelbrocks are a little extra money, but well worth it IMO. I love mine

I hear ya on the buying new over rebuilding deal. Im thinking about All new Control arms, upper and lower, new bushings and new tie rods. THen new bushings and a new bigger sway bar. What about the 620's, will this be a super harsh ride matched up with the GR2's? Also, if im sitting on stock coil springs, (which im sure are sagging down) would the drop springs actually drop it very much? and with the springs being firmer, then that might take care of the rubbing problem since it only does it when the car starts to float some on a high speed dip. thanks again.

620's will be stiff no matter what. GR-2's would make for a smoother ride than Gas-A-Justs with the same springs, but the Edelbrocks should provide similar ride quality with better handling. I drive around my 67 every day with 540lb springs (albiet on rather crappy roads) and I think it's right on the edge for what most people would tolerate in a daily driver. I wouldn't want 620's on my car. But then if you don't intend to drive it all that much, it may not matter to you.

ok, so i have all new arms upper and lower, new tie rod ends inner and outer, and most of the new bushings to redo the rest, (idler arm, strut rod and such) also ordering the uca drop template and drill bit from daze to do the uca drop and getting one of the CSRP brake kits.. All i need now is shocks and the coils. I have 620's sitting in a box at home, but i know they are going to be super stiff, especially if i have to cut a coil off. Should i just bite the bullet and buy some softer springs? Also thinking about going with the GR2's for sure. ANy input is greatly appreciated. and anything you see that i left out is of great help too.
