Default Looking for donor rear axles for 65

I'm currently looking for 8 and 9 inchers with 5x4.5 with little luck. What are some donor cars I can use as a reference for an 8.8 when I'm searching online? Converting to leaf springs is no big deal if I can just find one the proper width for a 65-6 or even a 67-8 width.

You looking for drum or disc rear brakes?

I think Lincoln Versailles and Mercury Monarch will get you disc rear brakes.

Uhmmm... Yeah.

I need to know what years will fit, first off. Should I find anything in the area, then I can maybe be choosy about brakes. Thanks for the input!

How much you want to spend?

I have a 9 inch housing, center section with 3.55 trak lok and 31 spline axles sitting in the garage that would be a bolt it...I want a pretty penny and shipping would be murder

It's still early in my search so I'm keeping my shopping price low until desperation sets in. I'd like to find a usable, rebuildable setup for $250-300 or a setup ready to use with the specs of yours for $4-500 in my shop. How pretty is the penny you're looking for? Shipping shouldn't cost more than a buck fifty - 200 ballpark compared to the amount of stuff I get shipped weekly.

You're in the right ball park...accept the "ready to run" price is low

My stuff would need to be cleaned, painted, and new bearings pressed on at your ready to run price, but the shipping estimate is accurate.

What you will find is 9 inch housings that are the right width for the 65/6 are 'considered' rare so the people who have them think they are made of unobtanium. I know I paid $200+ just for the housing I have now and it looks like it came fresh from sitting in the junk yard for 40 years when it arrived at my door....and hasn't change since I got it Just my plans so now it is an extra part.

Back to my original question: What vehicles can I use to search for an 8.8 rear end that is the right width for a 65-68 mustang? I'm aware of the 2 inch difference in the years mentioned. Leaf springs versus other suspension options isn't real important.

I used a guy in Oakland,Southern Indiana he sells a 9in for a 65,with a new True Lock 3ed member and 3.89 gears new brakes etc. for $1,100.

what he did was to use the tubes for a 8in 1965 and a 9in center section, so it looks org.

Mine works geat. $ it is what I paid, is it to much or to little?? but it works

Why use a 8.8 do you have a 7.5 or 8 inch now?

It's got a 7.5 now. I need to convert the rear to 5 lug and already have the setup for the front.
