I6 Transmission Questions
I have a 65 I6. The previous owner pulled out the 3 speed and replaced it with a appropriate year 4 speed.
The 3 speed case number is C40R-7006-A. What type of tranmission is this? Also, what is the value of one. When I bought the car he said it was rebuilt and it is crated but I can't find a receipt for the rebuild.
Also, the 4 speed in there now is case number E62DD7651B I believe. It does not look like a toploader, the plate is on the driver side. What type of transmission is this? Thanks for the help.

I had a 65 I6 with a factory 4 speed. It turned out to be a Dagenham (sp?) 4 speed which is, or at least it was, impossible to find replacement components for so I swapped it over to an automatic so Mrs. Fastback could drive it. This was pre-internet so parts availability may be better now.
I wound up trading the shifter for a nice center console for my 67and traded the transmission to some guy for a C4.
I learned a valuable lesson with that car. Never, ever, try to teach a high strung blond how to drive a stick shift in a 65 Mustang with a clapped out Dagenham 4 speed and a grabby clutch. She stalled it out in the middle of a busy intersection got flustered, hopped out of the car, folded her arms and stood there and pouted until I slid over to the drivers seat and took over.
