Default manually downshifting the FMX for passing???

I read that the C4 without a kick down cable installed can just be shifted down to second for passing or hard accelorations to keep the tranny good.

Can this be done as well with the FMX?

I'm curious because I don't want to have to spend 70 some bucks if i don't have to. Im just trying to get my car drivable. and I do plan to swap trannys later to a standard and I don't want to spend the money on it if I don't have to.

Though I suppose if it does NEED one, I can fabricate a rope kick down *And yes, there will be pics.... please don't say yes It needs one just so you can see my redneck idea actually done lol!*

This is a normal operation of the trans. Doesn't do it any "good", it's just normal.

Of course. The 69-70 mach1 with 351 had the FMX, as did almost all 71-73 351 2V. You don't think performance was permitted? Of course, downshifting is normal.

What is the $70 for? the 64-68 kickdown cable is $17.

like 2+2GT said, yes you can do it. I do it all the time in my car with an FMX, even though I do have the kickdown cable

the Lokar kickdown cable is like 75 dollars, and the other cables I've looked at are for C4s and look to short to work with the FMX being the FMX kick pulls down *I'd assume the C4 pulls up, not sure though*

BUT... I figured I could also rig something up, but I'll just down shift to second. It will make me feel like I have a Standard.... somewhat...

Thanks!

My kickdown lever is not a cable so I think it pushes down. You can do manually what it would do 'automatically' until you sort it out.

OK, all that "68coupe" stuff had me thinking you were talking about, well, a 68 coupe. The 69-73 cars had a large, lightweight "S" shaped kickdown rod, from a lever on the carburetor to a lever o the transmission. These are reproduced for big blocks, but you have to find a used one for smaller engines.

The car itself is a 68... the engine and transmission are not lol I'd assume not the tranny, but the engine I know. But. Ok.

Thanks!

Yes, as long as it came from a small block car.

Well, I hope the 75 Torino in question had a floor shift or you're gonna have linkage trouble.
