Turn signal help

I was sitting at a light waiting to take a left, when I saw smoke coming from the steering column. My signals were working fine before and now they are not. The lights in the rest of the gauge cluster work fine. When I try the hazard/emergency lights now, they lights in the cluster just stay on and don't flash. I checked the fuses and all are fine.

I'm thinking it may be the turn signal switch, which I'm planning on changing anyway. I was also thinking it may be the turn signal flasher. I'm just not sure where it is and what it looks like. Can someone direct me to where I can find it and what it looks like?

Thanks.

Its a flasher unit. It looks like a small can, green, white or silver. You cant miss them when your cluster is off.

It's the diameter of a quarter and about an inch tall. You'll find it under the dash. Plug in a new one.

So I will have to remove the cluster to get to it?? Or can I get to it from under the dash??

Is it something I can buy at any auto parts store or would I have to buy it from a mustang shop??

Turn sig. flasher

You can get to it by going bhind/ under the dash, but may be hard to get to if you have big hands.
