Car is getting painted today!! And I still dont know what color!!

I am looking to make a replica of the blue gt350sr. I believe the paint code off that car is a special unique performance diamond blue from dupont. That may be a pretty difficult color to get I am not sure but if it isnt available, which would be the closest option?

Here is a pic of the gt350sr.

Here are the options:

Toyota Blue Streak Metallic

Ford Vista Blue

definitely the toyota or ford is closer but I think they are both too light from those pics.

However, with better pics of the ford vista blue it looks like a closer match than the toyota

especially in this pic

the mazda color is too bright I think...

thanks for that. now you made my decision a lot harder lol. Looks like lexus spectra blue is close as well.

Yea its hard to tell which color matches well from the pics. In one pic the vista blue looks dull and dark and in another it looks very similar to the gt350sr. I think Im going to go to a few dealers in the next hour and check out the colors in person.

I try my best :D

But checking them out in person is definitely a good idea. There is always that slight difference in sunlight and real life than a camera flash.

+1 definitely see them in person if possible. For instance my color is VERY difficult to photograph, sometimes it looks almost silver, other times a medium blue. Just got to use a good camera at the right angles and sunlight, but still no photo does justice to winter blue, it's beautiful :)

I just looked at a mazda 6, chevy silverado, nissan 350z, ford mustang, toyota corolla, and a pt cruiser. Out of all of them I think the nissan 350z looked the closest. It was really hard to tell with them seperate and without a gt350sr sitting right next to it haha. But I think the nissan 350z, daytona blue I believe it is, will look pretty similar. Here is a pic

I would recommend against a Lexus or Nissan/Infiniti color. While they look good, they have a lot of fine metallic flake in them to get that 'luxury' car paint look. They also sometimes have a pearl to them. I'm not a fan of it on a lot of classics, which tend to like a little more medium metallic flake. The blue on that classic is going to have very little metallic flake.

I've seen the RX-8 blue in person and I agree, it's a bit bright.

What you can do is talk to your painter and have him alter a couple paint mixes to your liking (more black in the RX-8 color, or less fine metallic in the Nissan color) and spray you a couple test patches to see which you like. I've mixed paint before, and while it's not something done lightly, it's not rocket science. I custom mixed the paint I want for my car (I sprayed my computer case with it) from Ford's Nightmist Blue Metallic. I added a bit more black and a little more fine and medium metallic flake to give it a darker, more sparkled look.

in a simple google search of:

"unique performance gt350sr paint code"

i found the color and dupont paint code ...

http://pc.dupont.com/dpc/en/US/html/...olors_2-08.pdf

scroll down to the blues and its "unique performance diamond blue"

dupont paint code is :763792

edit:

i cant find the code details as far as the counts for each item in the paint.

as for difficult to get? if the paint shop is any good they can mix that paint on the spot. if they dont use dupont and use PPG instead they should be able to cross that code right over. or they can order in the dupont.

thanks for the responses. I just dropped off the car and told him nissan daytona blue. It was right when they were closing so I am sure he hasnt ordered the paint yet. I am not sure if they mix paint on the spot there but I believe they do but I still would be a little nervous if they made it a different color. They really have nothing to color match so I think it would be hard on their part.

and I saw a nissan 350z with that color and the metallic flakes wernt that bad. I understand the intense sparkles in the metallic do not look right on a classic mustang but most blues are metallic, even the ones in the 60s, although they wern't as intense. I think it will turn out alright. Ford and chevy blues are also metallic. Im not sure of a blue that isnt metallic?
