Default rebuilt t5 jumps out of 2nd...

Hey

I rebuilt my t5 not too long ago. It occasionally started to jump out of 2nd gear.

During rebuilt 1st gear , 2nd gear, one two slider, bearings, blockers and syncros were all replaced. So basically everything that touches 2nd is new as well as 2nd gear.

If it jumps out it does it just after the shift from and usually on upshifts.

It may jump out 1 every 50 shifts.

has steeda triax shifter

Any ideas?

That sounds similar to my problem on my 94 F150. My tranny pops out of 5th gear. It wont stay in unless I hold it. My dad rebuilt it in about 02. He was a "tranny guy" at a ford dealership and somehow he thinks he put my 5th gear synchros in backwards. He has been too lazy to fix the problem and I am too cheap to buy a new one so I drive it with no 5th gear. Mine is every time I put it in 5th though.

on the t5 you cant put the syncro in backwards. Is it not the job of the blocker to keep the slider engaged with a gear?

If this were an old trans with 120k miles on it and it jumped out of 2nd all the time would that be the fault of the blocker?

The trans was rebuilt in December of 08 and started this issue up about a month ago.....Its not serious yet but enough to worry me quite a bit...its brand new it shouldn't have any problems at all.

The trans shifts well into 2nd on up and down shifts it doesnt not fight me or grind and feels about as solid at the other gears. There is no profound difference between up/dn shifts into 2nd than any other gear.

What about the dog gears? The slider engages the dog gears on the gear cluster, if they're worn then it can pop out. Another possibility is a bent fork, or improperly adjusted stops on the shifter preventing the slider from completely engaging.

i'd hope it's as simple as the gear not going far enough due to the stops

I checked the stops I can pull it back with a good amout of effort and still slide a piece of paper between the stop and the shift lever.

I would hate the think the 2nd dogs are worn after about 4,000 miles. 2nd gear cant have more than 6,000 miles on since the rebuild.

I seriously doubt shift forks are bent.

Forks or rail(s) could be bent. Could be clutch adjustment too...I know the TKO's can be particular about not grabbing gear even if the clutch is only slightly misadjusted. Bellhousing alignment is another possibility.

what do you mean you put the gear in properly? What were you doing to cause that issue and what did you change? I got pretty much the same issue but in 2nd gear....although its still a very rare occurrence but I want to make sure it stays rare or even better go away!

Thanks

not really sure on why it doesn't happen anymore as I'm quite sure that I didn't dramatically change my changing-into-first gear habbit.
it only happened about 5 times but the last 3 times I could even guess when it would happen. It happened only under full load and when i was quick in putting the gear in.
i mean press clutch put gear in rev and go. it never happened when I took my time with it.
But I nearly forgot about the problem until you mentioend it with your post.
Hasn't happened to me in last 2 or 3 months

The only common denominators from when it happened I could think off were sloppy gear changes and full load.
I always found that the T5 is very irresponsive if a gear is actually in or not. Sometimes I'd put it into reverse and car wouldn't drive because gear was not in n fully although I thought it was
