Standard shift vs auto?
Besides the pedals is there a difference between an auto and a manual shift 71-73 'Stang? Please be as specific as can as I am looking to convert a 73 from auto to manual.
Thanks,

Sure- you need the change the engine rear cover, bellhousing, flywheel, clutch assembly, clutch linkage, shifter, pedals, shifter boot, speedo cable if you go 4-speed, speedo gear regardless, and you may need to alter the driveshaft. Personally, I'd use a T5 5-speed.

Appreciate the response. Is the floor board sheet metal constructed differently?
Also what about the crossmember.
I am looking at a 5 or 6 speed as the car I am working on is a Mach1 it was totally stripped for all parts years ago after being wrecked...and I mean stripped!!! I can do pretty much what I want as it will never be original anyways.

The floor pans are the same everything you need to change it over is bolt on stuff.Talk to http://www.moderndriveline.com/ he sells everything you need even a new clutch pedal.

I think you mean Tremec TKO-600, great transmission.
It bolts right up to a 351C, with the correct bellhousing.
The big problem is finding a clutch peddle for a 71-73,
good luck on your search.

Yeah, I had the name wrong it is a Tremec but the model is right, it is a 6060. They are 6 speed tranys and I see them in mustangs and vettes last year and this.
I don't know too much about them and though pricey I hear they can take some serious HP.
