what's a good tire
I am ready to buy new tires.
I currently have Uniroyal Tiger Paws 215-70r-14. I am really interested with good traction on curves, since i ride in the mountains a lot. I would like to stay with white letters but my options are limited. Black walls would be ok also. What have you guys had good experiences with. thanks |
Michelins, Sumitomo, Bridgestone, and Goodyear. I've had no problems with any of them, they are black walls.

Khumo makes a great tire for a good price.
|
No Goodyears for me, Kumo has one of the best for the money. Its hard to beat a Michelin also. They still may be made here.
|
Bf Goodrich g force line are great but get pricey tho.
|
You're going to be pretty hard pressed to find any halfway decent performance tire in that size.
Kumho's are so-so, but quality control for their low- and mid-level stuff is sketchy at best. They'll take more weight to balance than most other name brand tires. Radial T/A's look great, but perform terrible. Good quality control, but traction and handling are sub-par for a modern tire. Look for something with an H speed rating. |
Michelin makes good tires. Pilot, Pilot Sport, Pilot Exalto, PS2...but good luck finding a good performance tire in that rim size, like was said.
|
thanks. never owned michelins - could't affor them. i've had bridgestones and didn't get good service. think i'll look at the michelines and khumo or however its spelled. thanks, again.

+1 for the khumo's

i've run michelin ps2s and bridgestone re010s. both are great tires. the ps2s are a great all around tire - quiet, decent traction wet and dry. the re010s had better traction but were noisier and had no grip wet or cold. it didn't help much that they were almost worn out.
but i'm also running an 18" wheel on my M3. if anyone does make performance tires in a 14" wheel, they're going to be expensive and hard to find. if you're serious about performance, get a second set of 17" steel wheels from summit for like $200 and mount performance tires to them and keep your tiger paws on the 14" for whenever you sell the car. |
