Default My 71 Mustang. I need help.

I just bought a 1971 Mustang. It has the all original 302 motor but with a few very minor problems.

When I bought the car it needed an alternator. Done. Then it needed a new air filter. Done. New donut gasket. Done. Oil Sensor Unit was leaking. Done. New battery. Done. New Solenoid. Done. New belts. Done.

Now that the car starts and runs every single day, as it is my daily driver, I need a new windshield. New weather stripping and seals all the way around. New front shocks mainly the passenger side. New gaskets wouldn't hurt. Trunk lock and key. It has two tiny spots of bondo. And I could really use an RPM tach.

What i need to know. is if the car is worth keeping and restoring. It looks good... But you can tell the paint is cheap...and covering all the other paints. It has a little bit of rust on the bottoms of the doors and behind the bottoms of the doors.. Other than that the car looks to be an easy restoration project for me. I plan to make the 5 liter motor a 347 stroker motor so as I can keep the original parts mainly. I am only 20 and on a low budget at the time. I have done all the work on my own so far and I have just been teaching myself as I go. I really would like some advice on how to fix the main things like the rust and the paint.. I do NOT want to go the cheap route. Please help!

I know where you are at, I'm 21 and have a project mustang, sounds pretty similar! Paying for school and the mustang is tough, but if you love it you manage.
Good luck!

Imagine the finished project as you want it. Do a list and buy a restoration book and make it happen. Rome wasn't built in a day and if you take your time you will be much happier in the long run. I would think its definitely worth keeping.

just think smart. make a priority list. i tend to think in systems.
stopping equipment/safty (really should be first)
steering/suspension
engine
trans
interior
then visual stuff like paint and trim
