Rear main leakage issue.
A friend and I have built a 347 mill...
We had the crank, flywheel and damper balanced etc... by a local reputable speed shop.
Everything is FRPP:
Sportsman block.
Stroker kit.
X cam kit.
Aluminum GT40 heads.
The rear seal was leaking oil so we replaced it, figuring we had a bad one or we screwed it up.
The second one leaks as well from where it contact with the crank cap (see picture).
I dried the area clean of oil and the next day, it looked like what you see on the picture.
It's sipping away from that spot. It's obvious that it's not the oil pan gasket either (was hopping it was it).
Could it be that the cap is flawed? If so, could we use a tad of sealant silicone before installing a 3rd seal?
Any of you guys ran into this problem before?

at this point yes id get another seal and put a thin layer of silicone sealer around the entire circumference of the seal before inserting it, this may very well stop it, when i assemble a bottom end on the rear main cap where the cap sits ill apply a dab of sealer on the corners and on the seal ends (usually a 2 piece main seal) then install the cap and torque it down. and never have a problem with leaks.
