swap 289 for 351 in 66 stang?
I just bought a 66 mustang with a 289 and C4 trans. I also have a 351 ford engine sitting around and was wondering if that was too much for a street car? (dont get me wrong i love power but i dont wanna go too big on this car) If not I know Ill need a bigger trans and is it possible without cutting into the floor pan? Anyone done this swap? let me know. thanks

This is an easy conversion, and the first one was probably done in 1968, right after the 351W came out.
The motor mounts and bellhousing will bolt right up, and if it's a 1969 351, you can use the same radiator and hoses. If it's a 70 or later, you'll need a "5.0 conversion" radiator, and 1970 351W hoses. The exhaust is tricky, the 69-70 351W Mustang exhaust manifolds should work, but more likely you'll want special conversion headers, widely available.
Your C4 should be able to take the power, although I'd recommend installing the 289HP servo. No alteration of the engine compartment or tunnel is required.
