Torque Thrust II Questions

Torque Thrust II Questions
I am looking at putting tt2 on my 66 coupe. I was going to get 17x8 with 4.75 backspacing, when talking to mustangs plus this is what they suggested with a 235/45/17 tire. I was looking at cjs pony parts and found the rims cheaper and free shipping, however when I called them they told me these would not fit my car without major problems. I did notice that mustangs plus sells them with 8mm offset and cjs sells with a 6mm offset. I didn't think this would make a big differance , but maybe this is why cjs say they won't fit. I have one company telling me they will work and one telling me they won't. Who do I belive?

I put 17x8's on my 66 coupe with 225/45/17's all the way around. My car was originally a 6cyl car that has been converted to a V8. It has a different rear end from a 65 and all new suspension suspension. I am very familair with what you are running into right now. I was told many different things by many different people. I lowered the car as well. Not being comfortable with all the different things I was told I got a straight edge and a tape measure and measured what would fit in between the wheel wells myself.
For the rear the 4.75" backspacing is ideal. You could probably go up to 5" backspacing if you wanted to get the wheels tucked in the quarters on the rear on a lowered car. I have seen late model 17x8's with 5" backspacing fit on the rear with no spacers. The 235 tires would probably fit as well with the 4.75" backspacing but I would not go any bigger than that.
For the front on my car it looked like the 4.75" backspacing would fit as well but it was going to be really close to hitting the upper control arm. I went with 4.5" backspacing on the front to give me a little more clearance on the inside. There seems to be plenty of clearance on the outside to the fender. I'm not sure about the 235 tire on the front, it may fit but I went with 225's all the way around to be safe.
Having two different spaced wheels for the front and back is probably less then ideal but it worked for me. I found a really good deal on a set of centerlines and they are made to order so the different spacing was no problem for them.
By the way have you been here:

This helped alot when deciding on wheels and tires.
Good luck!

I have 17 X 8 Torq Thrust II's with a 4.75" backspacing all the way around the car. I have 235/45/17 on the front and 255/45/17 on the rear. 255's on the rear are as wide as you can go without giving you major headaches.
Also, my car is lowered alot on all four corners, 2" lowering blocks and 5 leaf mid eye lowering springs in the back, and a coil cut from the front.
I dont have any rubbing whatsoever, however, my fenders have been rolled on the inside.

I have TTII's on my 66 coupe. I am running 225 45 17s on the front and 245 45 17s on back with a 4.5" backspace. They are perfect. I get a tiny bit of rubbing up front because i am running the UCA drop with 1" lowering springs. I need to roll the fenders.
I have the back lowered with 4.5 mideye springs and they dont even come close to rubbing.
I paid $1300 for all four tires and wheels mounted/balanced/and additional warranties.
