set timing for 302
i installed a new timing chain and damper the marks on the damper go from 0,10,20,30,40 are they in 2 degree increments? i checked with a timing gun and my timing is at 10 what should the correct timing be, i read 6 degree's

If it looks like this, yes. And factory spec is 6° for most 289/302. However, no two engines are exactly the same, I like to increase the timing until I start to get a little "ping" under heavy acceleration. Then back off 2°. My 289HP is real happy at 14°. One thing you should do, though, is get your distributor advance curves set properly. It has to be removed and put in a distributor machine, which is a dying art. I have done a lot of these, and never saw one that was right before tuning. getting the curves done right can turn a dog into a tiger.

so when your numbers say at 1500 rpm you should have 10 degrees of advance I just made that 20 @3000?! (if initial was 12, I aimed for 32) makes perfect sense in my head, but noone ever confirmed Kalli |
where would i take it to get that done, and would the 10 degree's hurt my engine until i get that done or should i adjust it?

I believe (someone correct me) Glazier does do them? Send it in and get it done ... ?! b) as 2+2 already mentions. if you hear "ping" under hard accelleration retard by two degrees and try again. ping (pre-detonation) slowly but surely wrecks the engine. if excessive quite sudden |
