tri-bar headlights/monte carlo bars
1) was looking at these
http://www.mustangsplus.com/xcart/pr...at=2249&page=1
mustang monthly just had an article on installs for these. how do you guys feel bout em? anyone have em? also they offer ones with amber turn signals which look goofy. besides being $4 for the clear ones, is their any difference?
this seems to be the only pic i can find of one on a stang

2) anyone have any good links to monte carlo bars for 66's? Seems that I use to be able to find em all the time online now it seems the only ones I can find are adjustable ones. any real differance between the straight and oval braces (I have a basically stock distributor....as far as the position goes. im assuming the oval ones are to clear the dizzy)? Also, these adjustable ones seem new on the markets....least I havnt seen them before. Anyone tried em? Don't think I'll have any fitting issues since I had to replace the fenders a couple years back and dealt with the sag that the engine caused.
adjustable ones --> http://www.dallasmustang.com/popup_i...%20WEST&area=C ($~120)
thanks for the comments. been bored the last couple weeks....need to wrench on the girl for a weekend

I'd go with the straight bar if you can fit it. Much stronger than the curved bar. They are available from just about any Mustang supplier. We have a straight one in our '66, and if I remember correctly, the straight bar will clear a stock distributor. It's close on ours, but fits nicely. Cost about $30-35 from NPD, CJ Pony Parts or Glaziers.

I wanted to use the straight monte carlo bar, but it wouldn't clear my Pertronix distributor. So, I got a curved one. I agree that the straight one is stronger. I got it from Mustangs Unlimited I think. The curved one is actually to clear the oval air cleaners like dual quads etc, and luckily it clears distributors too.
As for the headlights if you get a pair of Sylvania Xtravision 6024XV bulbs and some headlight relays, you will have some good funtioning lights that look stock. They are the same wattage as most modern capsule bulbs at 55/65 instead of the regular halogen sealed beam that is more like 35 or 40 watts. There are relay kits available from LMC truck, and these guys. You can also make your own. http://rjminjectiontech.com/?p=8
If you go with the Tri bar that is H4 I think bulbs, you may want headlight relays too, since those bulbs draw more power than the originals. It will take the load off of the headlight switch and give the bulbs more voltage, so they will be brighter.
I wouldn't go with the Tri Bar lights they are plastic and turn yellow or become pitted etc. I would look at Hella or Cibie for H4 conversion lights. I think Delta makes them too.
I think that Tri Bar lights and those lights that have the built in turn signals look goofy. They might work on some old 30s-40s hot rod, but thats the only thing I can see them on.

the reason i liked those tri's was more due to the article (mustang monthly March '10 "Install Halogen tri-bar Headlamps") as they state they are the original equipment type halogen lamps and don't need more power (ie: wiring) which is what I was hoping to steer away from. I hate wiring...installing my ignition box wasnt too bad but questioned myself all through doing it but ended up fine. possibly I'm looking down the wrong path. Lookin for some nice bright, not quite xeons since i don't wanna fork out that money but do like the blue tint. For $74 a pop they seemed pretty decent
edit: I thought the article actually did say it used H4 bulbs which i thought was weird that a new relay wasnt needed but upon reading it again it doesn't mention the bulb type. the picture does look like H4's however. I never thought of that if those were plastic or not. Might call mustang plus tomorrow and ask cuz if they are plastic I'm gonna nix that idea and probably go Hella...thanks tx

These are the ones I put on my car. They plugged right in and have had no problems with them at all.
