Default t5 on a 68 302 block questions

Just picked up a T5 from a 87 cobra and looking to put it on my 68 302 block. I have been hearing some stuff that the T5 shaft is 5/8" longer than the orig. tranny shaft and I would need a spacer plate.

Is this true? Any one put a T5 on a older block before? Didn't think so don't think there is really a differance in a older 302 to a newer one. EDIT;(Or wait is that if your going to use the old bell? I have the bell that goes with that tranny so I'll be ok won't I?)

Also I think the flywheel is a 28oz balance on a 68 correct? What will I all need for this T5 swap? I think I have everything but the fly wheel. Flywheel, clutch kit, drive shaft, cable, petal. Am I missing anything?

Also will a 351c flywheel fit a 302? As long as it has the right balance and tooth count right?

Thanks for the replys

yeah i dunno for sure but heres what i do know..... all of the small blocks have the same bolt pattern so it will bolt up, i have a 71 Torino and when I started looking into changing it from being a c4 on the back of a cleveland to a t5 what i found is that i will need a pedal that works with a cable instead of linkages (i have no clutch pedal being an auto car) I would need to modify the cross member (move it forward?) but the 157 tooth flywheel will work, the flywheel is balanced to your motor not your trans so if you have a 28oz dampener use a 28oz flywheel. the driveshaft is said to be within a half inch so it will work with out mods. theres a company that specializes in t5 swaps to old mustangs i'll go see if i can find it.....

Yea that's what I thought about the cobra so don't really know what the hell that company was talking about a 87 cobra. But the tranny is the same anyways.

Ok next ?.

Got a flywheel from a 68 302 Fairlane now to buy the clutch kit. It gives me 2 options a 10in or 11in. Can I use either? If not how do I measure so I can figure out what I need.

I have to order the kit so want to make sure I get it right the first time so I don't have to ship the stuff back.

And thanks Josh for the links. I have figured out that I don't need the spacer because I have the T5 bell not a old bell. Now just the clutch size.

Thanks

I'm talking about a 5.0 and posting in a 5.0 section which is under the 79-95. My car is a 1980 with a 5.0 don't know how much closer you want me to be!

How about just helping someone and not worry about where its posted. I really hate you f&cking people who get all up tight about stupid sh.t and b!tch about it on the internet cuz you are to much of a pansy to do anything face to face with someone.

Oh and as your little quote thing goes about being polite how about following that and quit being a di(k head!

Sorry to all who had nothing to do with this but this is directed only at mjr46 and his di(khead attitude. If you don't want to help me anymore then fine I can get my info somwhere else. I really don't need this ****.

And mjr46 one final thing lets not reply to me cuz I don't care what you have to say im not fighting on the internet i'm not 14 anymore.

well, i was gonna go ahead and offer my .02 cents as i have a 68 block 302 and a t-5 and have probably dealt with all the issues you will be, but that being said, smack talking MJR is NOT a good way to start out on the forum just an fyi. the guy has helped me as well as others plenty and was definitely just telling you what you should have done to get a quicker response...you wont find help easily with that strategy
