Default 1967 289 Low Idle

hey guys tell me if you what you think i should bout this.

whenever i start the car if its not warmed up from before i have to give it a little gas either while turning the key or after i start i have to keep revving it up slightly to keep it on. Now i think its because of Low idle speed but im not sure.

Also im going to do a carburetor rebuild anyway so would that fix it?

If it idles fine when warm but not when cold then it is the fast idle cam adjustmest on the chocke side of the carb. Rebuilding the carb will not fix the problem unless you adjust the fast idle when you rebuild it. Also it may be that the choke is not working at all. Check that too.

im pretty sure its not the choke since the last owner supposedly had it fixed up.

would it be an easy task to adjust the fast idle cam? how would you do it?

I'm sure it is the choke. I don't care if the PO hired a brass band to repair the carb, it's not operating properly.

Adjusting the fast idle screw takes less time than I spent writing this note.

would you be able to show me a picture of the fast idle cam, im guessing its just a screw that i tighten or loosen to adjust the speed of the idle.

You can see the fast idle screw here at the extreme lower left corner.

You might want to post a pic of the carb, I've never seen a 1bbl. on a 289 or heard of one being used....we need more info on the carb - pic/make/model# -something.

if you can't find it at start, open the throttle plate while looking between main body and that black cylinder for choke. the screw that moves when you operate the thottle is the fast idle screw. and ya. post a picture of your carb. you never know the previous owner might have removed it or something stupid like that
