Default Which rack and pinion do you have

Well I am finally getting around to upgrading the 66, new motor, rear end , and steering etc. I have manual steering box 19:1 now, that box leaks up a storm so I am either going to get a manual rack or a a new box. I have been looking at different set ups and the prices have really jumped in the past year.

Does anyone have the Uni-steer kit or the Steeroids kit? It looks like the flaming River is out of the question at 1500 plus,

Please let me know about your experiences..........and I am not above putting a new box in if all else fails LOL

Thanks Oak

I always like hearing from ya'll, but I guess I should have researched this in the forums first, I just did that and realized this has been discussed at length previously. Oak

But if you wanna give your recent 2 cents let me know, Ryan

Flaming River, but don't believe their plug and play claims, or any other company. If you have a completey stock setup, maybe. My header required surgery to make it work.
Other than that, I love it. It no longer feels like an old car.
Keep in mind the high price includes a new tilt steering column, yet another improvement over the 'ol skool'.

My unisteer is $775 shipped from Summit. It works well. I have a write up somewhere.

I'm running stock steering with the quick ratio power steering box on manual steering. I really like it.

I would like to get a roller idler arm though.

I have manual unisteer in 67.
I like the SS u-joints and shaft.
The new design has nice u-joint angles w/ no binding; w/ proper install.
I like the heavy duty cradle which serves as a structural member.
I like the geometry which does not promote bump steer in my 67.
I like to mount w/ studs which makes it very easy to drop during alignment.
I did have to make a simple sheet metal firewall bracket.

My advise: make sure you install correctly w/ no binding and coat u-joint bolts w/ anti seize so u-joint pinches shaft.

I have OEM power steering in 64.5 and love it.

If I put in a manual box I would choose rebuilt OEM w/o long shaft.

Default thanks

Thanks i talked to a dealer of uni-steer yesterday, he told me there was a few issues with the original kit for the 65 66 kits that sold for 800 plus, ie tie rods needed to be cut and they promoted bump steer, he said there was an updated kit for just over a thousand and it had all issues resolved?
I am seriously thinking about the Steeroids kit now, Thanks for the input, Ryan

I dont think that is entirely correct, the original kit used a design that had header issues and was not well received, the new version has been out a while.
I had to trim the ends of the threaded rods with a cut off wheel my kit but it has zero bump steer. I would really recommend this product, especially @ $775 shipped.

Check Summit for the Unisteer Performance 8001110-01 - .

Default unisteer old vs new design

I read unisteer will trade old unit for new for free.

New design is far superior.

I got new design unisteer from jegs for $750 few months back.

Picture of old vs new.
