Default Radiator over flow air

Hi,
I have done some searching but if you can forgive me if it is somewhere but my internet is down and im using my phones internet so being quick.
I have just put my 289 back together. Well put a new thermostat in and new radiator.

I started it up and didnt run it to temp first with the cap off. So after a bit it started blowing water out the top.
So i let it cool, took the cap of and started again. After a bit the water blew out the top and i could feel air bubbles coming through. Turn it off added more water and same thing happened.

Is this air pockets being pushed out or is it gas from boiling coolant.
I also put the cap back on and run it for a short time and didnt seem to blow out. The temp guage says it nice and cool.

Any ideas, should it be right to go. I understand with cap on its pressurised and raised boiling point.

Thanks everyone.

Sounds like you worked the air out, you could always disconnect the intake heater hose when the car cools to warm and see if any more air comes out, do you have free flowing heater hoses or is there a control valve? You can also take a plug out of the upper intake/ Tstat housing to see if you get free flowing water out. The bubbles won't sink when it cools.

get a thermo gun and check the temp when its bubbling at the radiator and at the intake manifold. if its under 210 i wouldnt worry and its probably air, if its over 220ish then your overheating....

This is normal. Any car will do this with the cap off. Real Messy.

Sounds like you are all set. Check the coolant level after the engine cools the first few times you drive it.

Dan, Mine did the exact same thing, I had a brain cramp and put the thermostat in upside down.
