Hello all, I am new to the forum and restorations(new as in never done one before). My father has a '65 fastback that he has been saying he is going to restore my entire life. I am finally at a point in my life where I would be able to support a project of this matter financially, and also told him as soon as I got the money I was going to fix it. I was curious to actually how much it would cost....The car has been parked since around '85 (b/c it needed brakes) but luckily it has been in a barn covered the entire time. I was thinking 15-20K would do it but that was just a random guess. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ive got almost 19k in my car and its still not finished...that is parts only i dont have any labor costs in my car...but i also have 4 wheel disc brakes new engine etc

Interesting reason to park a car since practically the entire brake system can be rebuilt in one day for around $100.

I would start by removing all plugs and squirt a light oil in plug holes then allow it to soak. I would also pull valve covers to verify all lifters getting oil. Better to prime oil just like following rebuild. Verify engine spins freely by hand.

Got the 67 started and drove it around for about $30. New solenoid, batt wires, condenser, cleared fuel line. To make it road worthy should rebuild brakes, new tires, etc.

I expect car can be made road worthy for a few hundred dollars since it was before.

Restoration costs could vary widely depending on condition and goals.

I feel like I have way less than 15K in mine including 6 cyl to 8 cyl mod but haven't done the calcs.

Some things are cheap like DIY C4 rebuild is about $150.

Some things store well for decades like rear end and manual trans.

If the car is sound, a complete rework of the brake system, and the usual "pull the car out of years of storage" cleaning, tuning, fluid changes, new belts and hoses ought to do it, well under your budget.

If the car was rusty, or became rusty in storage, you'll eat up that budget real fast.

Ok, I tried to upload some photos of the car directly into the thread but couldn't figure it out so I added them into "my garage". This was the last time it was pulled out and washed (which was probably 5 years ago). Thanks for replies so far hopefully the pictures give a better reference.

Will interior clean up to your standards or you want it show?

If you decide to remove hood pins and mig holes go very very very very slow or else hood will oil can.

Make sure you use the IMG tags that photobucket supplies you with to post to messageboards aka IMG code..

The car looks good but paint can hide alot! Be sure to check your floors, frame rails and torque boxes for rust.
