Default PushRods Hardened Steel vs Chromoly

I have guide plates, 308 lb/in rate springs w/ 295 lb vlv open pressure.

I like 5/16" OD ball end PR.

Would be nice to buy the cheaper hardened steel push rods.

Any comments?

How much is the price difference, and what kind or RPM range are you looking at running?

The 5k makes me think no big deal. From what I've read chromoly is more for high rpm engines. You can also consider the idea that Ford used to build factory engines that would pull higher than 5k with just hardened steel.

On the other hand, for $50 bucks...

Get a set of chromemoly 1 piece pushrods from Comp. Good pushrods are vital for stability and reliability in a performance valvetrain.

i have one piece pushrods as well after a ball broke off one one of the ones I had before. Of course it was something else causing it, but I still prefer one piece bent than things flying around

vlv spring dancing is common at certain frequencies; flat wound damper springs support this thought.
i wonder if the pushrods do the same thing under 5000rpm.

Anytime you use guide plates you have to use hardened pushrods. If you use anything else the rods will wear on the guide plates and eventually fail.
