1969 transmission Upgrading
Hi,
I was told my transmission for my 1969 Stang is pretty much junk and to much money then I want to spend, for the amount they wanted I could buy a new transmission, I have the original 3 speed and looking to upgrading to a T5, but having a hard time finding a T5 model that will mount up to my engine, I was told that if i find the right model T5 it will mount up fine, all I would need to do is buy a mounting plate to space out the remaining space, and i could use the original bell housing. So does someone know what model T5 I need to look for?

A 4 speed might not be the best option for you. The four speed toploaders are getting hard to come by, and therefore expensive. A rebuilt toploader will cost about $2,200, and that doesn't include the shifter. A toploader is also heavier than most t5's. Depending on the type of driving you're doing, an OD gear could be a real boon.
Check with companies like Mustangs Plus. Finding all the parts to use a t5 in your car is a few key strokes away. You'll probably spend about the same money, depending on what you spend for the trans. But you'll gain a better shifting trans, an OD gear, and a clutch cable instead of the old linkage. If you drive the car a lot, IMO it's well worth the time and money.

OK say I'm gonna try to pick one up from the junkyard and restore it myself, ive heard some truck T5s are better, could i just look for a 85 and up F-series and find one? Or would i have to find one out of a Fox-body? (if there are any in the junkyard that is.)

I would spend the money for http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=1879 or http://www.moderndriveline.com/ or http://www.keislerauto.com/ a used junkyard t5 is kinda a gamble if its been drove hard it will break so plan to rebuild one if you buy it used.
