Default 289/302 aluminum heads question....

I found these heads on Ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...#ht_710wt_1165

I am looking to do a short term budget rebuild on my 289 short block. Currently I have factory heads. I believe they have 53cc combustion chambers and the aluminum heads here have 64cc. What pistons should I use so that I don't lose compression? What is the highest ratio I can go using 87 octane fuel. I plan to use a competition 268H cam, HIPO manifolds, aluminum intake, and holley 650 carb.

Do you have flat-top or dish-top pistons now?

Not sure, haven't heard anything about them. But I'd be skeptical at that price, since good used heads are usually $300-400 each give or take.

As far as c/r, it depends on the cam and combustion quality, ignition system, bunch of stuff. 2 engines with the same compression on the same fuel, 1 might be fine and the other melts. That said, with your setup 9 or 9.5:1 should be fine. Somewhere in that ballpark.

i find it very funny to mention proform and AFR in the same sentence *g*

"If you are looking for a race grade head that is comparable to Edelbrock, Dart, Trick Flow, Pro Comp or AFR at a fraction of the price look no farther then these. The features of these are as follows" ...

You get what you pay for. In the last few years a lot of parts have come from China. They use much cheap materials and thin castings to reduce price. As a result you get a much lower quality product.

I agree with everyone! You get what you pay for, I am scrapping this idea!
