I have scoured the internet today. Forums, Google, Yahoo, Ebay..... it seems hopeless.

I started my carb clean/rebuild last night and, as I already knew, the vent valve rod is broken. I wasn't sure what came in the rebuild kit so I waited to any searching for a replacment, and I'll be dipped if that sucker is nowhere to be found. Being that it is plastic one would think it would be a remanufactured part, especially since you could make a 1000 of them for a couple bucks and sell each one for 10 bucks. Maybe I need to start a business.

Anyways. Anyone know where to get a hold of one (or two) of these?

Ford discontinued them a million years ago. Why not? They quit making that carb before 1969. I think Pony Carbs makes them.

nice find :-) like 2+2 said try pony carbs as well. might be cheaper. as far as I know they hav every part for an autolite or make it themselves

Pony may have sold them before but they don't now. I'm sure they have it but apparently they are saving what they have for their own builds now. So far Champion Mustang seems to be the only source to get these. They also have a bunch of other hard to find Autolite 1100 parts as well.

What I love about you folks is that if the part doesn't exist or won't fit, you either make the part or make it fit. How hard would it be to make one of these?

That's a good question. I called a plastic company who makes molds. The process is called "Plastic Injection Molding". For a single cavity mold, the cost is $4500.00 with a minimum run of 2500 units. The $4500 price is only for the mold not the parts made. For a 4 cavity mold it's 13,500.00 with a minimum of 10,000 units per run. The $13,500 price is only for the mold not the parts made. So if you have this kind of pocket change you can make them yourself. I doubt the manufacturer made a 4 cavity mold as I'm quite sure they would never sell 10,000 of these parts as they probably don't have 10,000 of these carbs on the market anymore. So my educated guess is they have a single cavity mold with a run of 2500 units. That seems more realistic. So if enough of us get together we can pitch in and make these ourselves. But I'm sure nobody will come forward and I'm not going to waste $4500.00 plus parts of my hard earned money. After you think about it, anyone or company would be nuts to spend this kind of doe for a part that is on a rare carb in the first place. It would take years just to break even.

There has to be a local mustang or falcon shop that has some of these laying around. Either that or check Craig's list and see if someone has an old 1100 they are trying to sell. As a last resort I would make one out of steel and see if I could make it work. I haven't work on a lot of 1100's lately but I can't believe that rod would be that hard to find.

Talked to my buddy at the Mustang shop who just happened to be rebuilding one for a customer and I got some good info from him. The later 1100's didn't even have that rod on them. Ford figured out it was not doing any good and infact the remanufactured carbs that you get now will not have them on there either. They have a plug in the whole in the top of the bowl. I say leave it off and call it good.
