Talking Young guy wants a MUSTANG!!!!

Hey everybody,
Im here new at the forum and I wanted to introduce myself. Im Michael from South Carolina. But the reason I have come to you today is to get some help and make a decision on my new mustang. I got a 1970 Ford Mustang Im about to buy from my uncle. It was originally a Standard Fastback 302. But the original 302 is no where to be found. He has a Boss 302 thats in need of repair, but I dont know if thats what I want. To tell you the truth I wish i could slap a Boss 429 in it, but that would take some major modifications. As of right now my plan is to find a 351 Windsor, rebuild it and make a 1970 Mach 1 clone. So, give me some advice and tell me what I should do.

Thanks, Michael

Ok guys, I've got the pics, as soon as I get to the house I will upload them, it will not let me upload them off of my phone. Also, I have not bought the car just yet, but he wants 3000 for it, it needs a new interior, and a lot of body work and an engine, good price? I thought so.

Sounds like a lot to me for a 70 fastback with no engine, rusty, with a torn up interior. I guess if it is not too rusty and it is all there you could do ok.

I like the Boss 302 and my second choice would be the Mach 1.

That's kind of high for a rusty shell with no engine. Depending on the rust, maybe $2K, $2500 tops. That is a big maybe on that price as well.

I don't want to be the one to put a damper on all of this but do you have the funds to do what you want to this car? The bill on this is going to be way north of $10,000. Maybe very close to $20,000. A lot depends on the condition of the car and how much rust repair is needed.

^agreed!

sounds to me like you need to bring an objective, completely uninvolved person into the whole decision who is able to see things clearly and help put it in perspective. Buying any muscle car can be an emotional experience especially when its an old one that needs work. Gotta have help to stay grounded or you can get in way over your head in a real hurry.

and on the what to clone question, I would say a Mach1 but then again im biased
