wow thanks for all the reply's guys, i totally appreciate it. okay so i've already found 3 428cj's on criaglist in my area they average about $1200 but i've seen 2 decent regular 428's for $400, okay so to convert it i'm gunna need
1. motor mounts
2. bigger radiator
3.suspension upgrade ( i should be able to get away with just upgrading the springs?right?)
4. disc brakes
5.transmission (toploader 4sp right??? is there any 5sp's out there)
6. stock clutch parts
7.new drive line
8. 9in housing plus internals

what all am i forgetting?

okay and idk why i'm compelled to do the 428 but idk it's just what i want
i'll think over the 460 and you guys are serious a 460 will fit because from what i'm told it's 2 big. then there's the rear end where's a good place to find the rear end i'm thinking of just junk yard surfing tell i find one what do you guys think.

notch the towers and the 460 will have plenty of room for plugs.

Scroung the yards for a truck 9", you'll have to narrow it but you can find a stock trac lock 31 spline 4:11

The 460 is NOT a bored out 428, it's a stroked 429.

The 428 is an FE engine.

The 429/460 is a 385 engine.

Totally different engines, with nothing in common. The 385 is slightly narrower than the FE, and will fit between the towers of a 67-70 no problem. The 71-73 was actually designed to fit the 385.

To make the 460 fit you just need to buy the swap kit a few company's have idk what for a manual you could run tho dont think you need to cut the shock towers either with most kits.. I would go 428 relatively easy being being that all you need to do is buy the stuff to put a 390 in. I have a 390 right now and it was easy to do. Look at how much the headers are their about the most expensive part for getting the motor in. I went with manifolds to save money.

Stroked means the piston travels further up and down, thats were the extra inches come from.

You're right you don't have to notch the towers, but it'll give you a hellva lot more room. You still have to change plugs and bolt down the headers. Headers in that swap kit run about $600.00,...ouch!

when i went to buy headers for the 390 think they were about the same price. That was years ago tho someone might have came out with a cheaper set then hooker.
